Drinking in Arena

Master mana management and safe drinking techniques

Drinking Fundamentals

Mana management through drinking is a critical skill that separates average players from gladiators. Knowing when, where, and how to drink safely can turn losing positions into victories.

Drinking Mechanics

  • Channeled Activity: Drinking is a 10-second channel that breaks on damage
  • Full Restoration: Restores 100% mana if completed
  • Partial Benefits: Each second restores 10% mana
  • Combat Requirement: Must be out of combat to begin drinking
  • LoS Dependent: Enemies must not have line of sight
Priest ~8000 mana ~800 mana/sec when drinking
Paladin ~7500 mana ~750 mana/sec when drinking
Druid ~8500 mana ~850 mana/sec when drinking
Shaman ~8000 mana ~800 mana/sec when drinking

When to Drink Safely

Timing your drinking attempts is crucial. Drinking at the wrong time gets you killed, while missing drinking opportunities loses you the mana war.

SAFE

Enemy Team Reset

When enemies pull back to their starting position or behind pillars for their own resets.

SAFE

After Major Enemy Cooldowns

When enemies have used burst cooldowns and need time to reset for next attempt.

RISKY

Low Mana Under Pressure

When forced to drink despite enemy presence. Requires excellent positioning and team protection.

NEVER

Enemy Burst Windows

When enemies have cooldowns available and are actively looking for kill opportunities.

Safe Drinking Opportunities

  • Pillar Safety: Full LoS behind large pillars with escape routes
  • Team Peel: DPS partner actively zoning enemies away
  • Enemy CC: When key enemy players are crowd controlled
  • Map Control: When your team controls favorable positioning
  • Defensive Cooldowns: During immunity effects or damage reduction

Safe Drinking Positions

Positioning while drinking is just as important as timing. The right position keeps you safe while maintaining team coordination.

Nagrand Arena Drinking Spots

Best Position: Behind any of the four main pillars

Escape Route: Can move to adjacent pillar if pressured

Team Support: Close enough for protection but behind LoS

Blade's Edge Arena Drinking Spots

Best Position: Behind the small pillars (limited safety)

Escape Route: Limited options, requires team protection

Team Support: Essential due to limited LoS options

Ruins of Lordaeron Drinking Spots

Best Position: Behind tomb or in sewer entrances

Escape Route: Multiple level changes available

Team Support: Use different levels for complex positioning

Drinking Position Checklist

  • Full LoS: Enemies cannot see you at all
  • Escape Route: Path to safety if drinking is interrupted
  • Team Range: Close enough for protection without exposing team
  • Combat Drop: Completely out of combat before attempting
  • Threat Assessment: No immediate enemy presence nearby

Common Drinking Mistakes

  • Drinking in Partial LoS: Enemy can still see part of your character
  • No Escape Plan: Drinking in corners with no exit
  • Team Abandonment: Drinking too far from teammates for protection
  • Predictable Timing: Always drinking at the same health/mana thresholds
