How Arena Points Work in TBC Anniversary

The Formula

Blizzard uses a logistic curve formula to calculate base Arena Points from your team rating:

p = ((1651.94 − 475) / (1 + 2,500,000 × e−0.009 × r) + 475) × 1.5

Where r is your team rating and p is the base points before bracket multiplier.

Bracket Multipliers

The base points are then adjusted by bracket:

  • 2v2: 76% of base points (×0.76)
  • 3v3: 88% of base points (×0.88)
  • 5v5: 100% of base points (×1.00)

How Points Are Awarded

  • Points are awarded at the start of each week based on the previous week's play.
  • You must play at least 10 games in a bracket to be eligible.
  • You receive points from whichever eligible bracket gives you the most — they don't stack.

Rating Requirements for Gear

In TBC Anniversary, Blizzard reduced the weapon rating requirement from 1850 to 1700. Gladiator shoulders still require 2000 rating. All other pieces have no rating requirement — only Arena Point costs.

Why This Formula?

Blizzard adjusted the original TBC formula multiple times to accommodate varying season lengths and to ensure players at the 1700 rating threshold can afford weapons alongside other gear. The current formula was finalized after PTR testing with community feedback.

Frequently Asked Questions

How are Arena Points calculated in TBC Anniversary?

The base formula is: p = ((1651.94 − 475) / (1 + 2,500,000 × e^(−0.009 × r)) + 475) × 1.5. This gives the base points, which are then multiplied by 0.76 for 2v2, 0.88 for 3v3, or kept at 100% for 5v5.

What rating do I need for PvP weapons?

PvP weapons require 1700 rating in TBC Anniversary (reduced from the original 1850). Main hand weapons cost 3,150 Arena Points and two-handed weapons cost 3,750 Arena Points.

Which bracket gives the most Arena Points?

5v5 gives 100% of base points, 3v3 gives 88%, and 2v2 gives 76%. However, you only receive points from your single highest-earning eligible bracket — they don't add up.

How many games do I need to play?

You need at least 10 games in a bracket during the week to earn Arena Points from that bracket.

Do Arena Points stack across brackets?

No. You only receive points from whichever eligible bracket would give you the highest amount. Playing multiple brackets doesn't give you more points — it just gives you more chances to earn from your best bracket.

What's the maximum Arena Points per week?

At very high ratings (2200+), you can earn around 2,477 points per week from 5v5. The formula has a theoretical cap near 2,477 points from the logistic curve (the ×1.5 multiplier in the TBC Anniversary formula significantly increases earnings).

When are Arena Points awarded?

Arena Points are distributed at the weekly reset (Tuesday for US, Wednesday for EU) based on your performance during the previous week.
