Subtlety — Shadowstep control

Arena option

Arena starting point

Approach: Arena starting point
Best For: RMP Comp, Control Gameplay

Shadowstep builds combine mobility, controlled burst and resets. Choose an opener around the opposing trinkets, your partner's control and your escape route. A clean second setup is often more valuable than spending every cooldown in the first.

Talent Priorities

These are the key talent choices behind the build. The complete level-70 allocations are listed below. Open the TBC talent guide ↗

Subtlety

Shadowstep Talent

Repositions behind the target and helps reconnect or set up control.

Preparation Talent

Resets specified Rogue cooldowns. It does not reset Blind in TBC.

Stat Priority

Primary Stats

  • Hit appropriate to your attacks and talents; inspect misses rather than stacking it without a purpose.
  • Resilience and stamina for survival; balance these against your role's damage stats.

Secondary Stats

  • Attack power, strength or agility as appropriate to your class and weapon attacks.
  • Judge critical strike and other offensive stats in the context of uptime and enemy resilience.

Gear Priority

Weapons

  • Compare weapons for your active role and the season available on your realm.

Armor

  • Build a coherent PvP set before trading away survival for a single PvE upgrade.
  • Honor and arena purchases should solve your largest weakness: survival, reliable control or pressure.

Accessories

  • Keep the appropriate PvP crowd-control trinket available.
  • Choose the second trinket for your matchup and set; no universal resilience threshold makes every PvE item safe.

Consumables

Arena

  • Prepare permitted class-created resources, reagents and bandages before queueing.
  • Use arena-eligible water for drinking; create a safe out-of-combat window.
  • Normal potions and flasks are not part of a rated arena loadout. Keep battleground consumable plans separate.

Playstyle Guide

Decisions

  • Pool energy before a stun window so you can act while the target is controlled.
  • Keep damage and poisons off a planned Sap, Gouge or Blind target when they would break your follow-up.
  • Trade Vanish, Cloak of Shadows and Evasion for specific threats. Use Preparation after valuable resettable cooldowns have been spent.

Review

  • Track one reset: did your own damage break control, or did you leave without a safe route?

Key Matchups

Look for these opportunities

  • Commit a stun setup when your partner can follow and the healer is controlled.
  • An opponent without a trinket is an opportunity only if the next control is ready and will not break to damage.

Struggles Against

  • Damage-over-time effects and enemy detection can deny resets.
  • Being caught without defensives or energy makes another setup difficult.

General Rogue Tips
